In a media release dated February 17, 2018, Bishop Malusi Mpumlwana (General Secretary of the South African Council of Churches) congratulated President Cyril Ramaphosa on his election as president of South Africa.

At the same time the SACC called on all their congregations to “intensify the prayers that we offer every week for the Office and Person of the President. The churches make this serious commitment in the light of all that is expected of the new president.

The statement concludes with 1 Peter 5:2-3:

“Be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them – not because you must, but because you are willing, as God wants you to be; not pursuing dishonest gain, but eager to serve; not lording it over those entrusted to you, but being examples to the flock.”
