In a recent discussion we had with dr. Michael Louis, he emphasised the importance of praying for South African president Cyril Ramaphosa. Louis, who has a rich history in South African politics, including founding the African Christian Democratic Party (ACDP) and participating in the drafting of the constitution, spoke highly of Ramaphosa’s dedication and challenges over the years. He praised Ramaphosa’s moderate stance and his commitment to leading the country, even amidst personal and political challenges.

“I’m a person that believes that the Holy Spirit will come in a very powerful way to change our nation to be the great nation that it is.”

Louis highlighted the immense pressures Ramaphosa has faced, such as the COVID-19 pandemic, economic downturn, and political scandals like the Zuma transition and the Zondo commission. Despite criticisms and efforts to oust him, Louis believes Ramaphosa is uniquely qualified to lead the country and stabilise the government.

He expressed concern about potential changes in leadership within the African National Congress (ANC) and the implications for the government of national unity. Louis argued that Ramaphosa’s departure could lead to instability, with the possibility of more radical elements gaining influence.

He also discussed the role of the church in South Africa, stressing that it should not remain dormant in addressing societal issues. Louis advocated for greater involvement of the church and civil activism in shaping the nation’s future, highlighting the power of civil organisations to influence political change.

Finally, Louis expressed hope and optimism for South Africa’s future, believing that a government of national unity and the involvement of dedicated citizens can lead to a prosperous and united nation. He emphasised the importance of spiritual reformation and the role of the church in guiding the country’s moral and ethical direction.
